REGENCY
HOMES AND ERM BUILD DISPLAY HOME IN 7 DAYS
Making a homeowner's dream come true is what Regency does best.
But when they needed to make their display dreams come true, they
called on Exhibit Resources Midwest.
Regency Homes presented ERM with an elevation drawing that needed
to become a 10' x 20' display in less than two weeks. There were
a lot of elements that needed to come together to create an upper
middle class home backdrop that could be utilized in both a 10'
x 10' and a 10' x 20' configuration and be transportable. Graphics
needed to be created to bring the sunny summer outdoors to the
inside of the convention center in mid-February in Iowa and a
digital carpet needed to be designed and produced.
ERM put together the construction crew and began with the long
lead time items first.
Gabe Bauman, graphic designer with ERM headed up the crew and
began "construction" of the digital carpet by getting a blue print
of a model Regency home. He modified the blueprint to match the
actual floor plan of the booth. Gabe then selected actual samples
of carpet, tile, and wood flooring, which he scanned into the
computer and overlaid the scans onto the blue print. A life size
Regency legend in the lower right corner completed the blue print
look. The carpet begins as a drawing and becomes a home. The files
were transferred to Airbrush Images of Conroe, TX and in less
than 3 days they produced the carpet.
Gabe also began locating images to create a sunny summer outdoor
look. The trees and green leaves were easy, but when it came time
to find a deck complete with children looking through sliding
glass doors, it became a bit more challenging. Gabe decided on
a deck image that complimented the home and then "constructed"
the child looking in, by placing the images together. These images
were then produced as a lambda print and mounted on sintra for
rigidity to mount to the patio door and window.
Next on the list was the structure itself. Sub-contractor Mike
Antenucci of Antenucci Woodcrafters joined the crew. We divided
the structure into 6 independent sections for future re-use and
reconfiguration, as well as ease of storage and transportation.
These six interchangeable, bolt together sections, will allow
Regency to alter the booth configuration into a 10' x 10' as well
as reversing the layout.
Regency wanted something structurally sound, updateable with the
latest home décor colors and able to withstand a lot of moving
in and out. Antenucci constructed the back wall of two-by-fours
and ½" MDO, which were then covered with a Beige laminate from
Wilson Art, which can be easily changed as styles change.
To create a "corner lot" look, two 16" diameter pillars connected
with a roof line were also constructed of ¼" plywood. The pillars
themselves were covered in a Graphite Grafix laminate and the
roofline was covered with a Tuscan Marble laminate. A 12" x 72"
header drops into slots on the pillars giving Regency a strategically
located and dominate nameplate.
Once the digital carpet and basic structure were delivered to
The Home & Garden Show at Vets Auditorium with 24 hours to spare,
final details were put into place. Regency crews came in to set
the cabinets, including an island kitchen unit and a corner home
entertainment section. The granite counter tops and crown moldings
were added and the graphics were put in place behind the window
and doors. Regency Home Decorator, Andrea Lainson polished the
display with stylish accents that highlighted the copper in the
granite counter tops and in the Tuscan Marble laminate of the
roofline. Three 200-watt tungsten halogen lights were located
above the molding to create a warm homey glow. Acrylic literature
holders were added to the pillars to make them even more functional.
The crews of ERM and Regency came together to make this dream
display a home they could be proud of for this show and future
shows.
Dean Summa, Marketing Director for Regency Homes has this to say,
"you and your team did an outstanding job in getting the finished
product to us ON TIME!" After all that is what it's all about!
The booth was on display at the Iowa Home & Garden Show at Vets
Auditorium in Des Moines, IA, February 13-17,2002.
