BEAM
INDUSTRIES NEEDS HIGH TECH POP UP DISPLAY TO "CLEAN UP" AT TRADE
SHOWS
As the world's largest,
most complete
central vacuum manufacturer with a high impact industry report
on asthma and allergies ready to debut at the NAHB (National Association
of Home Builders) in Atlanta, GA, Darcy Swon, Marketing Coordinator
for Beam Industries, Inc., knew she wanted a fresh clean look
for their exhibit.
Flexibility and simplicity were major factors, with 10', 20' and
30' in-lines and island spaces already reserved for 2002 shows.
Having multiple salespeople required something that anyone and
everyone could set up and use.
The combination of three Featherlite AF100 Formula 10' Arc "pop-up"
units fit the bill for simplicity and flexibility. Seventeen inch
Arc Connecting Panels allow the units to be placed in 20' and
30' in line configurations as well. The addition of some larger
36" Arc Connecting Panels allow the three units to convert into
a 12' x 12' island unit.
"We were looking for a fresh, clean and contemporary booth that
would allow us flexibility in setup. With the three 10 ft. units,
we are able to do a straight-line or a triangle shape which allows
us to fully utilize our booth space," says Swon.
But we needed to expand on the design to give Beam a uniqueness
that would "blow away" the competition and "suck" people into
the booth.
Clean and Bright were the buzzwords; graphics and lights were
the key. A large "lifestyles" image of a mother and child in a
clean bright room would be the focus. But we needed more. By modifying
the channel bars of 2 Formula units, a custom Octanorm frame that
would flatten out the arc and create a space for backlighting,
could be attached. The Octanorm frames were designed in a four-square
pattern allowing large 46" x 46" transparencies to be magnetically
attached.
Working closely with Beam's Marketing and Advertising Partner,
ZLR of Des Moines, IA on color and graphic selection, the eight
transparencies conveyed the message brilliantly. In addition,
the graphics can be easily updated since everything attached magnetically.
"The back-lit panels really added the finishing touch. We couldn't
believe how bright and clean it made our message. It really catches
your eye as you walk by. It creates a warm invitation to stop
in and see what we have to say" Says Swon.
The graphics spelled out the message clearly, but corporate booth
identification was missing. The Beam name also needed a high-tech
look. The addition of Snap Truss and a specially designed header
bracket were the answer. The Snap Truss was configured so that
there were three complete 10' truss packages. This allows for
the truss to be used in any of the four configurations. There
were two rectangular header graphics and one arc header graphic
for the center display, mounted to sintra and designed to clamp
directly to the truss.
"The metal trusses not only serve a cosmetic purpose, they are
functional as well. We use them to display literature and hang
bags for tradeshow give-a-ways," says Swon.
Beam wanted the booth to be well lit. Each light box contained
two 4' fluorescent light bars that hooked to the framework. The
center four-panel photomural was lit from the top with two 200-watt
halogen lights. The next step was to make sure the headers did
not end up in the shadows. Six halogen clamp lights - two for
each header were placed on the truss legs and pointed up at the
headers illuminating them from the underside.
The truss and lighting gave the booth that High Tech - 21st Century
look. But was it still easy. Kim Ulvestad, Project Manager spent
3 hours training the Beam staff with an on-site hands-on session.
The hardest part was getting the clips to spread apart to snap
the truss together. Beam employees stepped up to the plate on
this one and had their T S & D staff design a tool that would
spread and release the clips.
ERM's IT department established a web page for Beam that contained
online set up drawings and instructions. So if someone was unable
to attend the training session, or they arrived at a show with
no instructions, they could simply access their page and everything
is available 24/7.
The Beam display made a "clean sweep" at the NAHB in Atlanta,
GA, February 5-9, 2002.
